How to Generate Random Numberson the TI-84 Plus

This TI-84 Plus calculator has a vast number of numbers arranged in a list, known as a random numbers table which it utilizes in order to generate random numbers.

Generating random integers

To generate random integer,follow these steps:

  1. To turn on the randInt Wizard on the Math PROB menu, select If you're using a TI-84 Plus, there is no wizard for the command randint. To run the command you need to know its syntax, which is randint(lower higher, upper elements]).A wizard can make entering data easy. The wizard arranges data entered in a way that fits the syntax of the command. The wizard is on the screen that opens. image1.jpg
  2. Set the lower limit and upper limit you would like the random number you choose to be.You want a random number between 1 and 100. Enter [ENTER] or press the down-arrow to move through the next screen in the wizard.
  3. Enter n, to determine how many random numbers you'd like to generate.Press [ENTER] several times to generate additional random numbers, as shown in the second screen.
  4. If you want to generatea list of random integers then change your value for n.See on the screen #3 in.

Generating random integerswith no repetition

Did you notice that the integer, 52, was chosen twice in the third screen? If you're creating an assortment of random integers You can avoid repetitions with a different method. Here are the steps:

  1. To activate the randIntNoRep wizard on the Math PROB menu, press image2.jpgSee on the initial screen.On the TI-84 Plus, the randIntNoRep command doesn't have an interface to assist you. The syntax for the command is randIntNoRep(lower,upper). In contrast to the TI-84 Plus C that you can't use, this command doesn't give you the option of changing for the quantity of terms. image3.jpg
  2. Input either the upper or lower limits and n (the the number terms).See this second page.
  3. Press [ENTER] until your numbers are generated.This is shown in the 3rd screen.

Generating random decimals

It is easy to generate random decimal numbers that lie between 0 and 1. Press

to select the rand option to choose the rand command Math Probability menu. Then repeatedly press [ENTER] to generate random numbers. The first screen illustrates this process.

If you want to generate random numbers that range between 100 and 0 utilize the rand command. It is an expressionsuch as: 100*rand. The second screen.

Seeding the random number generator

Your calculator creates random numbers using an enormous list of numbers that are arranged into an order. Here's the best part. You choose from the list that you would like your calculator to start generating random numbers. This is known as seeding your random number.

Try to be creative with the number you pick to start your calculator. It should be fun! You can figure out how many years you've been alive. Your calculator comes with a function to calculate that for you! You can follow these instructions:

  1. Press [2nd][0] to access the Catalog.Notice the calculator is currently in Alpha mode, which is indicated by the blinking of the A in the cursor.
  2. To add the dbd( function click image6.jpgdbd signifies the days that lie between dates.
  3. Fill in your birth date as an integer on this format: MM.DDYY.Dates need to occur between 1950 and 2049. In this case, June 1, 1968 is entered as the number: 06.0168.
  4. Press [,].
  5. The day of the week is entered as a number in this form: MM.DDYY. January 2 2013, is entered with the following number: 01.0213.
  6. Press [ENTER] to find out how many days you have been alive.See your first display. Wow! 16,286 years sounds like old! image7.jpg

Here are the steps you need to follow to seed your calculator:

  1. Enter the number you're selecting to start your calculator. 16286. Naturally, you can utilize any number real to seed your calculator.

  4. Press [ENTER] for seeding on your calculator.See that first row in the next screen.
  5. Try it out! Use randInt( to generate random number.See the last line in the screen in.

Do you want to impress your friends? Create a seed for your calculator using results you know ahead of time. For instance, if you intentionally seed your calculator using numbers like 16286 and then the next three randomly generated numbers (from zero to 1000) that are generated will be 203, 197, and 213, as shown in three screens. Don't divulge your secret!
