The American System (US Customary Units) and British Imperial Measures

British Imperial Measure prior to 1963

It was the first time that English officially recognized measurement standards were introduced in the 15th century. British unit system, also known as imperial units, was established in 1824. It was the British Weights and Meausurements Act of 1824 repealed the entire British measures laws and redefined existing units. It was 1963. Weights and Measures Act standartized the international measures.

International Nautical Measure

The term "international nautical mile" was defined by First International Extraordinary Hydrographic Conference, Monaco in 1929. It is the only definition in widespread current use, and is the one that is accepted by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures. Before 1929 , various countries had different definitions, including the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom and the United States did not immediately accept the international value.

However, how was it described before?

• Between 1960 and 1983, the meter was redefined again . It was renamed as 1,650,763.73 wavelengths from the orange-red radiation krypton 86 in the specified conditions.
• 17th Conference The 17th Conference defined that the term "meter" refers to 1/299,792,458 in the distance light travels in a second This measurement definition has been in place to this day.
